noob warrior advice
I am only 10 hours into the game but I may start over.
The problem is, I just got to the second Ascalon city so I am only 10 hours into the game. I play with my wife who is an elementalist/ranger. What seems weird is that she does 35-40 damage each shot using only the starter wand and 6 on her fire mastery attribute. I have 6 on strength and 3 on axe and I bearly do 18 damage on a good hit. Even if I rage up to hit faster and when I get enough adrenaline go with executioner, she will kill her enemy faster than I can - which feels strange to me. Its almost as if the Elementalist makes a far better damage dealer than a warrior.
So heres a couple of questions.
1) is it better to put most of your points into the weapon or strength?
2) which weapon should I go with? I know that hammers are stronger but attack slower. I went with Axes thinking that in the long run, it would be better and I can use a shield.
3) are shields even worth it? Tall shields (best I can use at this point is only 4 armor).
4) should I rebuild and go with hammer or stick to axes and build that up? Will the skills for axes or swords make up for the lack of damage compared to the hammer?
Thanks for your help.

1) I find that its better to put points into the weapon.
2) I went with axes myself. I'm happy with my choice. IMO they're better for spike damage, swords are better for spreading conditions, and hammers are pretty much only good for KD. Before someone yells at me, this is just my opinion.
3) They are. Later, that extra 16 armor from a max shield comes in handy, along with the mods you can get.
4) Stick with axe if that's what you have. In the long run you'll be full of skills that have + unconditional damage (i think its unconditional, anyway).

Welcome to Guild Wars. Since you are new to the game I will just give you the basics and standards.
1. You always want to most of your points into your weapon as a Warrior. An example could be 12 axe 8 strength and 8 tactics.
2. Sword is good for pressure and utility. Axe is for spike damage. Hammer has knock down's and good damage.
3. As you get further in the game weapons and what not become better. Shields have a max of 16 base armour and then other mods.
4. Guild War's interface allows you to change your weapon's and skills in seconds. In an outpost you can easily pull points out of axe and put them into hammer.
Any other questions feel free to ask.

when in a town or outpost open your attributes window and click on the arrow pointing downwards to pull out points from the attribute you want.

No, do it as much as you want.
But when the game first came out, it was different.
Tips:
Focus on weapon skills.
Read the description for strength carefully. Strength is actually not necessary unless you want to meet the requirement of your shield or you are using many many strength-based skills. You get +#% Armor Penetration when you use attack SKILLS.
Tactics is a very helpful attribute. Bring Healing Signet at all times.
Bring an IAS(Increased Attack Speed) Stance, but I wouldn't recommend Frenzy if you're new to the game. Use Flurry.
My PvE attribute spread is usually:
12 + 1 + 3 Weapon Mastery
8 + 1 Strength
10 + 1 Tactics
The additional numbers are from runes.
Welcome to phenomenon that is Guild Wars. Oh, and have fun.
If you want a better axe/shield or if your wife wants a better staff/wand+offhand, feel free to PM me. I'll hook you up.
Yes, I do like helping newer players.
If you ever need help, feel free to ask more questions.

1) As a warrior, put most points into the weapon
2) Hammer is for knockdown, axe is usually spike, and sword is for nice battle, basic weapon.
3) Yes because they are, later you get 16 armor from a shield and that is really nice. Always nice to have some extra armor
4) Whatever you want. You can have hammer and an axe. Just change the attributes in the outpost and maybe switch runes around if needed.
Have fun in this game

LOL thats the only games my wife likes until I got her hooked on this game. Well Mario Party, DDR Max, and Guitar Hero - all games I don't like much so this was a welcome surprise.
Now my wife bugs me all hours of the day to play Guild Wars.

o.O
can she be friends with my wife??
I came home yesterday to my wife playing Wario on the Wii.... she likes the mindless type of games....
I guess she would rather pick her virtual nose and watch discoing doggies than fight in guild battles??

mindless games are ok sometimes. If you get 4 people together Mario Party is not bad.
I had to force my wife to try GW. I told her its like a myspace website where you can chat with people and if you feel like it, go kill a monster or two. She didnt believe me but she tried it anyway.

My wife used to like GW till she realized she can't play an assassin like in Ragnarok Online [btw, brainless grind? yeah, makes me shamed ;_;]...
Darn, what is it with games these days that make you use your brain a bit and WHAM, suddenly, people don't want to play?
As for the questions, there are 4 basic 'laws' for a warrior, if you follow them, you'll be fine. [these are the pve laws which i presume you'll stick with for the time being]
1. You're the 'human shield' for your team. Bring the right skills and act accordingly.
2. You are the 'tank' [as in you can hit REALLY hard when needed as well as take hits. The Axe 'Howitzer' is known as Eviscerate or Dismember if you can't get it...]
3. You are the leader. [with good reason, the mechanics involved usually force warriors to be callers and team leaders since well, we're always in front getting smashed ^_^ Best view of the battle if I do say so myself]
4. You are the savior. If things turn grim, RUN the heck away and use your res sig/skill after a few breathers...
Follow these rules and chances are good you'll make a fine team player for your GW experience. ^_^

Don't be a tank. GO KICK SOME BUTT.
1) Weapon is best, because Strength barely does anything.
2) Weapon is up to one's own preference.
3) Shields are worth it. Most of the time, anyway.
4) Don't worry.
If you think your wife's dealing more damage than you...get to the higher levels and do that comparison again. ^_^

Elemental damage scales differently than weapon mastery at lower levels. LightningHell has the right of it, you're a warrior, go kill stuff, it's what they're best at.
